What is
Web Design
?
Web design is the creative process of designing the visual layouts of a website that happens before the full development of a site begins. It’s all about crafting clean well-thought-out designs which essentially means choosing the right typography, colours, spacing and imagery to ensure the composition of all the visual elements works well together and so the design feels well-balanced. We design all our designs in a special tool called Figma. The flat (static) User Interface (UI) frames then act as a blueprint to be used later down the line once the website's coding begins with the developers. These static designs help map out the information architecture of the site, ensuring every element is intentional and aligned with your brand before a single line of code is written.

FAQs

What’s the difference between web design and web development?
Web design focuses on the planning and creative work that happens before the actual development (coding) of a website begins. In most cases, we include both web design and web development timelines and costs within a unified project plan. However, there are instances where companies opt to have their website developed in-house or by another team. In these cases, we step in to provide flat UI web design frames. Using tools like Figma, we create static designs that align with your brand and user experience goals. Once finalised, we share a collaborative link for client feedback, and the designs are exported, ready to be handed off for development.
Will you design the website for phones and tablets as well as desktop?
Absolutely! When we create web design frames, we always include at least two sets of designs, one for desktop and another for mobile. In some cases, tablet designs may also be required. This depends on the complexity of the designs and whether the developers feel confident making informed decisions to bridge the gap between desktop and mobile layouts. We would always ensure your site looks and performs perfectly across all devices.
What is the process for designing a website?
Our website design process is broken into four main steps.. 1. Discovery: We start by getting to know your business, its values, current assets, branding, and where you want to go in the future. We also explore how you’d like your brand to be perceived online. 2. Competitor Analysis: Next, we conduct a collaborative competitor analysis to identify what already exists in your market and align it with your vision. 3. Initial Concepts: With the groundwork laid, we create three distinct homepage design concepts, each with a unique visual identity. These are presented for your feedback, allowing us to refine the direction based on your preferences. 4. High-Fidelity Designs: Finally, we design high-fidelity screens, guided by the agreed sitemap, sections, and structure. This ensures everything is polished and ready to be handed over to the developers. Every step is collaborative; this ensures the final designs truly represent your brands vision.
Do I need to provide all the content, or can you help with that?
As we deal with a wide variety of different clients operating across different sectors/industries, we leave the real expertise down to our clients. We encourage you to provide as much content as possible, as you know your business best. We do offer copywriting services to refine or expand on the content you provide, adjusting the tone of voice if you don’t feel confident about your writing ability. For imagery, if you already have in-house photos taken for your business, these will always be the best option, if not, we can source high-quality imagery from our stock subscriptions to fill in the gaps.
How long does it take to design a website?
The design phase of a website typically takes 2 - 4 weeks. However, this can vary depending on factors like how quickly content is provided and the number of pages required. For example, an 8-page website will naturally take less time than one with over 100 pages. We’ll work closely with you to ensure timelines are clear and realistic.
Do you redesign existing websites?
Yes, we frequently work on redesigning existing websites. Whether it’s a subtle refresh or a complete overhaul, we tailor our approach to your needs. For clients wanting to retain some visual continuity, we can build upon your current design while introducing fresh elements. Alternatively, if a full redesign is required, we can create an entirely new visual language to give your website a bold and more modern identity.
How much does web design cost?
Most of our web design projects range from roughly £5k to £10k, with final costs shaped by the individual scope and complexity of the work. Our minimum starting point is typically £3k, however, this amount can vary depending on the brief and will be properly scoped out after our initial discovery call. Once we have received the brief and agreed upon the final amount, an initial 50% down payment will be made when the project begins with the final outstanding 50% to be paid on the project completion day.
