What’s the difference between branding, a logo, and visual identity?
Branding is the visual representation of your company, encompassing everything that relates to how your business is perceived. The logo is a graphical representation of your business, like the recognisable designs on a Coca-Cola bottle, a FedEx lorry or a Starbucks shop front. It communicates your business name visually through typography, colors, icons, and shapes. Visual identity refers to the overall look and feel of your business, essentially all the visual elements combined to create the branding of your company. Together, these components shape how your brand is seen and either remembered or forgotten.
Will branding help me stand out from competitors?
Absolutely! Effective branding is one of the most powerful ways to differentiate yourself from competitors. Many businesses underestimate the impact of high-quality branding, assuming their products or services alone are enough. However, customers buy into brands and the stories they tell, not just the products or services themselves. If you’re a small to medium-sized business, there’s often a significant opportunity to stand out, as many competitors often haven’t invested much resource into their branding. With strong branding, you can position yourself as a fresher, more forward-thinking business, often winning customers over with your brand presence alone.
Can I update my existing brand, or do I need a completely new one?
This depends on the size of your business and your current strategy. At Modal, we offer full-scale branding campaigns as well as smaller, more subtle brand refreshes. The best approach depends on the effectiveness of your existing branding and your future goals. Over time, even the most iconic brands need to be updated to stay relevant. As a general guideline, smaller-scale rebrands are often recommended every 5 - 10 years, but this timeline can vary depending on how well the original branding was executed.
How long does the branding process take?
A typical branding overhaul will usually take around 4 - 6 weeks, but this depends on factors such as the size of the business and the number of branding elements involved in the project. We often allow an additional week or two buffer, as creating impactful branding is a creative journey that doesn’t happen overnight. Some of the best branding ideas come at unexpected moments, often when we least expect them. The process is collaborative, and together we’ll craft a brand you’ll be proud of.

How much does branding typically cost?
Most of our branding projects range from roughly £5k to £10k, with final costs shaped by the individual scope and complexity of the work. Our minimum starting point is typically £3k, however, this amount can vary depending on the brief and will be properly scoped out after our initial discovery call. Once we have received the brief and agreed upon the final amount, an initial 50% down payment will be made when the project begins with the final outstanding 50% to be paid on the go-live day.
What if I don't like my new brand identity?
We understand that branding can be a personal and subjective decision, which is why we approach it as an iterative, collaborative journey. From the very beginning, we work closely with you to ensure we fully align with your vision, values, and goals. Through regular check-ins, feedback sessions, and open communication, we refine and evolve the brand identity until it perfectly resonates with your expectations. By the time we reach the final output, the result is almost always in line with what you originally envisioned, as your input and insights have shaped every step of the process. However, if there are any concerns, we’re committed to addressing them and making the necessary adjustments to ensure you’re completely satisfied.
